Château de Chambert "Grand Vin"

The nose has hints of dark fruits and spices, ending with peppermint, black cherry, plum, and truffle. The finish has an expression of minerality, with a palate of exuberance and density, balanced by silky fine tannins.

The Grand Vin is a 100% Malbec grown under the AOC Cahors designation, in the Cahors region of France. The vines are 40 years old on average, grown on a selection of the finest terroirs available to the chateau: brown clay-limestone, iron-rich clay siderolithic and Kimmeridgien limestone.

After harvesting, the grapes are fermented with indigenous yeast at 82.4 - 86 degrees Fahrenheit in small concrete tanks, a practice from ancient Rome. Following a gentle extraction to preserve a quality tannin profile, maceration is carried out over the course of about 15 days. Finally, the wine is aged in 3,000-liter foudres for 15 to 18 months.
